Scope of work:
The objective of the Alice Springs Flood Mitigation project is to complete a feasibility study on various trunk drainage options and prepare
concept and detail design for the preferred options to reduce flooding affected areas within Alice Springs.
Our Role:
Byrne Consultants were engaged by the Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (DLPE) to determine the feasibility of various proposed
trunk drainage upgrades, develop concept designs based on a preferred option from the feasibility phase and provide detail design services.
Our role includes:
- Project management.
- Gap analysis.
- Risk identification, evaluation and mitigation.
- Options assessment. • Targeted land investigations.
- Concept and detailed design of relevant infrastructure.
- Pre and post development drainage upgrade flood assessment.
- Stormwater infrastructure (quality and quantity control).
- Traffic assessment.
- Cost estimation.
- Design management.
- Environmental assessment.
- Cultural heritage assessment.
- Stakeholder engagement.
Project Outcomes:
The project is ongoing; however the intended outcomes are to determine a preferred drainage solution and prepare detail designs for drainage
upgrades to reduce flooding in affected areas of Alice Springs. To date, Byrne Consultants have completed preliminary investigations
including an engineering assessment, an assessment for potential impacts of the proposed works on Aboriginal sacred sites in the areas of
work, detailed survey and an environmental assessment. The preliminary assessment has resulted in the development of initial advice for
works which can be prioritised as early works for implementation by the client, preliminary engineering design across multiple sites and the
establishment of a GIS portal to map proposed engineering options against cultural heritage constraints and assist in the presentation of
key project concepts to a broad stakeholder audience.
