Scope of work:

The Belyuen Airstrip Gravel Pavement Upgrade aimed to modernise the airstrip's infrastructure to improve safety, functionality, and compliance with Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), Manual of Standards (MOS) and Airport Association standards. The project focused on resheeting and reshaping the existing gravel runway, taxiway, and apron to address issues such as shrinkage holes and uneven surfaces. The project also included designing and upgrading a sealed access road connecting the airstrip to Cox Peninsula Road, ensuring reliable connectivity.

Our Role:

Byrne Consultants were engaged to undertake the following scope of work:

Conducted detailed site inspections to assess existing conditions and ensure alignment with project objectives.
Coordinated with surveyor to perform a precise ground survey, critical for geometric and pavement design.
Managed geotechnical assessments to evaluate subsurface conditions, supporting durable pavement designs.
Delivered detailed designs for: o Gravel pavement resheeting and reshaping for the runway, taxiway, and apron.
- Sealed access road, incorporating a 3.5m-wide two-lane configuration and line marking.
- Stormwater drainage solutions to improve surface water management.
- Compliance with CASA standards and operational safety requirements.
Conducted a road safety audit and implemented design adjustments to meet regulatory and operational safety standards.
Produced required tender documentation, including drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
Engaged with DLI to ensure compliance with standards and successful project delivery.
Facilitated value engineering workshops to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining design integrity.
