Scope of work:
Coolalinga is an outer suburban area in Darwin, situated along the Stuart Highway, approximately 29 km southeast of Darwin and 10 km
southeast of Palmerston. This project aims to improve access management, local connectivity, and traffic safety in the area. Key upgrades
include two signalised intersections, service road extensions, and a new road link. Future provisions for additional Stuart Highway lanes
were also incorporated into the preliminary design to ensure seamless utility integration.
Our Role:
Byrne Consultants were engaged to undertake the following scope of works:
- Roads, Stormwater, and Pavements: Comprehensive design of urban and hybrid sections to Litchfield Council and NTG standards.
-
Street Lighting and Traffic Signals: Incorporation of electrical and lighting designs at critical intersections and pedestrian crossings.
- Landscape Design: Integration of aesthetic and functional landscaping.
- Service Relocations: Coordination and documentation for water, power, and telecommunications services.
- Contract Documentation: Preparation of tender documents, including Schedule of Rates (SoR) and construction-ready drawings.
Variations to the original scope included the addition of a mid-block intersection, revised road alignments, and hybrid cross-sections for
Henning Road.
Project Outcomes:
Specific outcomes include:
-
Improved Connectivity with new links from the service road to Henning Road and Virginia Road, providing better integration across the
Stuart Highway.
-
Safety Enhancements which include signalised intersections and controlled pedestrian crossings improve traffic flow and reduce risks.
- Geometric improvements, hybrid urban designs, and future-proofed provisions ensure sustainable use.
Project is currently progressing to the 90% Design Submission.
