Scope of work:
Issues with existing traffic operations along Schwarz Crescent were identified by multiple community members and supported by traffic
analysis. The priority-controlled intersection of Schwarz Crescent at the Stuart Highway was at capacity with significant road safety
concerns relating to vehicle turning movements and pedestrians triggering improvement requirements to the road link.
Our Role:
Byrne Consultants were engaged by the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure (DLI) to develop detailed engineering design and
documentation for the upgrades to the Stuart Highway and Schwarz Crescent Road link. Scope of works included:
- Detailed design of complex roadworks on a National Highway to Austroads Guidelines.
- Client and stakeholder liaison including DIPL, PWC, and Alice Springs Town Council.
- Detailed stormwater design.
- Detailed design of road pavements and traffic control devices.
- Detailed design of water main and sewer main relocations and associated protection works and relocations to PWC approval.
- Management and co-ordination of all other service authority designs i.e. electrical and communications.
- Quantity take off and prepare tender estimates and schedules.
- Prepare construction drawings and Request for Tender documentation.
- Scope and commission sub-consultants.
- Client, stakeholder and service authority liaison.
- Prepare Safety in Design Report and Design Reports.
- SIDRA and Traffic Analysis.
- Traffic Signal Design.
- Road Safety Audits.
Project Outcomes:
Byrne Consultants successfully managed multiple stakeholders with different agendas to complete the concept and detailed design. The project
included absorbing major client and stakeholder driven, design changes within the project timeline. Overall, the proposed design has
resolved the road safety issues, large vehicle turning movement concerns and traffic congestion in the Stuart Highway/Schwarz Crescent area.
The design provides access to busy commercial and industrial locations with large numbers of heavy vehicles, local traffic, and pedestrian
activity.
